BRIGHT NOW ARCHIVE
May 14, 2008
For Bright Pink girls, Mother's Day can be both bitter and sweet. For those who have a mom or grandma who has survived breast/ovarian cancer, it is a day to give thanks and celebrate their survivorship. For those who have lost their own mom to breast/ovarian cancer, the day can be really tough, filled with sadness and absence. Recently, Allison Gilbert, one of our Bright Pink girls from NYC, was featured in a beautiful New York Times article entitled Circle of Solace for Those Without Parents. The article discusses what it is like to raise children when your own parents have died. The article mentions the importance of having a strong supportive network of people who can relate to one's experiences and validate their emotions. Bright Pink has been that community for so many young women who are coping with the loss of a mom or grandma. By listening, sharing advice, and supporting one another, our Bright Pink girls have created a special bond that is strong and lasting. And our girls have committed to living the Be Bright Pink philosophy and ensuring that our generation faces breast and ovarian cancer in an entirely different way than the generations before us.
All the best and brightest,
Lindsay
