Lindsay's Story

BRIGHT NOW ARCHIVE

July 1, 2008

On Sunday, June 29, The New York Times ran a beautiful piece in their Fashion & Style section entitled,
"Modern Love: Rescued by an Israeli Soldier," written by one of our very own Bright Pink girls, Glynis. In the article, Glynis so eloquently describes how meeting and falling in love with an Israeli soldier, allowed her to feel "whole again" after undergoing a prophylactic double mastectomy in her early 20's. The story is candid, genuine, and truly highlights an issue that is close to the hearts of many Bright Pink girls. Also on Sunday, about 400 Bright Pink girls and their families and friends joined at The Drake to celebrate "The Women We Love" at a High Tea. Jessica Queller, writer/producer for Gossip Girl and author of the memoir, Pretty is What Changes. delivered the keynote address and the talented Nikia Hamonds-Blakely, who was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 16, sang a special song, "I Promise", that was inspired by all of the mothers, sisters, and girlfriends in the room. The room was filled with so much love and brightness and we are so grateful for everyone who came out to show their support.

All the best and brightest,

Lindsay
