BRIGHT NOW ARCHIVE

August 21, 2007

This past weekend, our entire Board of Directors gathered in Chicago to discuss the long term goals and programs of Bright Pink moving forward. The meeting was filled with lots of laughter and tears, as one board member told of her own breast cancer diagnosis, and another spoke of the hope he holds that this organization will be there when his 4-year-old daughter Maggie grows to the age where she will need to learn how to do a proper self exam. During the meeting, one of the board members said something that I have not been able to forget. He said, "Bright Pink is de-victimizing breast and ovarian cancer."

Now, I have thought about what Bright Pink stands for for hours and hours on end, and yet I had never thought about the power of Bright Pink in this way until he said this. As a Bright Pink community, we truly are not victims, but rather are empowered young women. We are not denying our risk level, but are being armed with the information we need to make thoughtful and informed decisions regarding prevention and surveillance that will ultimately save our lives. I invite you to join us and commit to Being Bright Pink. Arm yourself with knowledge, keep a great attitude, and most importantly, be proactive with your breast and ovarian health.

All the best!
