BRIGHT NOW ARCHIVE
September 4, 2007
People often ask where did Bright Pink and Be Bright Pink come from? The truth is when we set out to create this new organization, we didn't want it to be just another breast/ovarian cancer organization, but rather wanted it to be unique and have a personality all of its own. Of the hundreds of young women who are at high risk for breast and ovarian cancer that I have had the opportunity to speak with, I think each would agree that thinking about and dealing with breast/ovarian cancer at a young age is not easy. It can feel scary and confusing, and often as though you are traveling through a dark tunnel all on your own. Yet, the comfort and peace of mind that is brought about when a young woman feels armed with knowledge, supported by others, and empowered to do something about her risk level cannot be quantified. It is this feeling that encompasses what Being Bright Pink is all about. It is about being smart and being positive. It is about taking control of your breast and ovarian health and spreading this life saving message to the other women in your life who you love the most.
We are so excited to officially launch our Breast Self Exam (BSE) E-Reminder Program. As many of you know, performing monthly self exams is one of the easiest ways to notice any changes that may require further medical attention. While most lumps are not cancerous, if you are suspicious of a change in your breast, it is best to visit a health professional and get it checked out. I hope you will educate yourself about how to do your self exam, sign up for your own personalized monthly BSE E-Reminder, and join me in committing to Being Bright Pink. Together, we are spearheading a fresh new movement among women everywhere.
All the best,
Lindsay
