WE ARE BRIGHT PINK

Nicole
My journey to this point in my life has been a long one, marred by the two time diagnosis of my mother with breast cancer, as well as the multiple diagnosis and eventual death of my Aunt Gail. My first experiences with breast cancer were when I was little, it was something that great aunts got sick from. I never had a notion of the emotional and physical toll cancer can take on a family until my Aunt was first diagnosed. She battled bravely for five years, before she was taken Christmas day, while my mother, her sister was in the middle of receiving chemotherapy for her first cancer diagnosis. My mother has since battled through a second diagnosis, the confirmation of having a BRCA1 mutation, and my own confirmation of the mutation.

After finding out about my own BRCA1 mutation, I delved into a world of research, on anything and everything I could find out about breast cancer and the hereditary genes attached to it, which is how I came upon Bright Pink. This organization has been a wonderful resource in encouraging not only myself and other women. I hope by getting more involved here we can all continue to raise awareness and continue to fuel the need for research so that women have access to current information. the research and support we provide to each other leads to a bright future, one that hopefully does not include breast cancer.
