WE ARE BRIGHT PINK

Teresa
My name is Teresa and I am a 1 year survivor of breast cancer. Last year when I was diagnosed I had a right side mastectomy, I was stage 2 so I had 8 rounds of chemo and 30 treatments of radiation. It was recommended by all of my doctors to have genetic testing done. It came back positive for the BRCA1 gene. So I decided to have a total hysterectomy which I had last month and I had another mastectomy last week. Good news, both pathologies came back negative for cancer. I am a 45 year old wife and mother of 2 young girls. If anything, this whole experience has given me the knowledge and the choices that I needed to live. I know that I have done everything humanly possible to stay cancer free. Also, this will give my girls choices when they become adults. Am I thankful, not for the cancer, but I am thankful for knowing about genetic testing. My mission now is to let others know that they do have a choice. They don't need to be afraid of the answer. I know what caused cancer. Some people don't know.
