MICHAEL HOWARD, M.D.
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF SURGERY
NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY,
FEINBERG SCHOOL OF MEDICINE


Michael A. Howard, MD is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University and member of the Evanston Northwestern Healthcare medical group.  Dr. Howard received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine and then completed his plastic surgery residency at Georgetown University.  He then pursued further specialized training in breast reconstruction and microsurgery during his fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.  A board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Howard has expertise in reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery.  He utilizes a variety of techniques, including implants and microsurgical free flaps such as the TRAM, DIEP and SIEA perforator flaps to reconstruct oncologic defects and traumatic injuries. Dr. Howard has a particular interest in academic plastic surgery and devotes significant time to the education of residents and students, as well as clinical research.  He has presented his research at local and national meetings and has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals.  Currently, Dr. Howard’s research efforts focus on the reconstruction of partial mastectomy defects and breast reconstruction following nipple-sparing mastectomy.
